SKIP MATHENY
Roman Candle
Roman Candle is an alt-country/indie rock quintet from Chapel Hill that includes band members (and brothers) Skip Matheny and Logan Matheny. Skip Matheny started the band with his younger brother Logan (drums) in 1998. The band also includes Skip Matheny's wife, Timshel (keyboard), Nick Jaeger (guitar) and Jeff Crawford (bass). Their debut album, Says Pop, was recorded and released in 2002. In 2005 Roman Candle signed with V2 Records, which includes such labelmates as The White Strips and Rickie Lee Jones. In 2006 they released a new album titled, The Wee Hours Revue. For three years, music industry executives have agreed that Roman Candle is one of the best, most complete American rock bands to surface in a decade. Critics have all agreed that their first album, Says Pop, is an indie treasure.
