Signed by Epic Records in 2005, Matthew Mayfield, frontman of Moses Mayfield, has seen how the music business often trades industry commerce over real craft. When Columbia Records took over in 2006, the release of their much-anticipated full-length album, aptly named, "The Inside" sadly became a business casualty of the label. Now, after six years of national touring, Matthew offers his most honest, dedicated songs yet in solo performance. "My heart is in it," the songwriter says. With his latest release in 2008, The Fire EP, Matthew delivers a raw, stripped, and soulful sound that takes the listener straight into the heart of songs. Matthew Mayfield is finally outside again: you can hear it in his voice.

Birmingham based Matthew Mayfield traces his musical history from smoky concert halls to Columbia Records (Moses Mayfield) and back again. He's had stints on tour with Pete Yorn, Blue October, Switchfoot, and Needtobreathe.
